Golf course of Shinnecock Hills

Shinnecock Hills Golf course is one of the oldest and the best golf courses in the world. It was started building in 1891 when Meade and Cryder bought an 80-acre land for the course. It is a 12 hole course designed by Willie Davis of the Royal Montreal Club. Earlier in 1893, a nine-hole course was built exclusive for women, but afterwards it was added to the original course.
The ground of Shinnecock Hills is rock-strewn and presence of thick grass makes it a complicated course. An extraordinary feature of this best golf course is its longest and shortest par fours which makes it exigent for the far ways as well as off the tee. This course has witnessed many tournaments from 1896 creating its own history. The first competition of U.S. Amateur was held in 1896 and after those, in 1977 Walker cup tournaments was played here. It has been a host for U.S. open championship for three centuries.
Town of Southampton on Long Island owns the glory of Shinnecock Hills Golf course, in its village of Shinnecock Hills. It is magnificent course located on treeless sand on the east of Shinnecock Canal. Its first hole covers 395 yards and fifth one holds 530 yards while 7th hole of 185 yards is overshadowed by fourth.
